INTERNATIONAL WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL FEDERATION

Some time ago, IWBF Europe had awarded next year’s European Championships for
Women and Men to Israel.  The Israeli Paralympic Committee now suggested to relocate
the Championships from the area north of Tel Aviv to the north of Israel, around Nazareth.

IWBF Europe President Jan Berteling and Secretary General Ron Coppenrath visited
therefore Israel from May 6th to May 8th for a site visit to check the hotel and venue facilities
in that area.  Jan and Ron met with the Local Organising Committee and also with the mayors
and relevant staff members of Nazareth, Afula and Gilboa.  Jan and Ron were impressed with
the situation in that area and the interests of the authorities to make this a very successful event.
The facilities are good, but the two playing venues will undergo a renovation in the next months.

All teams and officials will be hosted in the Golden Crown Hotel, situated on the top of
a mountain in Nazareth, overlooking the Izrael valley. 
During the event, the hotel is “ours”; all rooms are available for the Championships.
And from the hotel, you can basically oversee all the venues to be used.

Jan Berteling said that we could really look forward to a great event, taking place from
September 6th to 18th 2011.
