Passing of a Friend - Zbigniew Micek

It is with the greatest sadness that we say farewell to a friend. Zbigniew Eugeniusz Micek known as Zem to everyone in wheelchair basketball passed away this afternoon (Wednesday) having been taken in to hospital on Monday.

Zem was heavily involved in the development and running of Owls Disabled Sports Club for many years and in 2008 he became a Trustee and Board member of British Wheelchair Basketball.

A valued member of Owls, Zem’s role stretched from fundraising, coach, organising events such as the IWBF European Cup Finals through to secretary for the club as well as a valued player and team member.

Zem was also an important figure in the development of the sport, he was heavily involved in the North West Regional Association and with the junior teams as well as being an advocate of the Women’s game.

On the Board, Zem made a particular contribution to the League Sub-committee and was a strong advocate for the membership and ensuring there was a fairness applied across the whole league.

Zbigniew will leave a large whole in the sport and we have lost a very dear friend and colleague.
