Warning: playing
against Greek clubs
A serious problem
has arisen in Greece, because the Greek Government withdrew its
recognition of the Hellenic Wheelchair Basketball Federation (HWBF).
The Hellenic Sports Federation for Persons with Disabilities (HSFPD)
now claims to be responsible for wheelchair basketball in
Greece. However, the HWBF with George Kouzas and Harry Perdikis
is still the Greek member of the IWBF and EuroZone.
As the HSFPD is not
an IWBF member, clubs joining this federation are not eligible
to play against IWBF related clubs.
This means that you
first must contact the EuroZone Office to investigate whether or
not a club is joining the HSFPD or is still a member of the HWBF,
if you receive an invitation from that club to play in Greece or
if you wish to invite a Greek club to your tournament.
The IWBF, the
EuroZone and the HWBF are trying to find a solution on time to
ensure Greek participation at the upcoming Paralympics.
Playing against
non-recognised teams is an infraction against our Constitution
and Regulations and can be severely punished, especially in the
present circumstances.
Any change in the
circumstances will be published immediately.
Jan Berteling,
President EuroZone,
Ron Coppenrath, Secretary General EuroZone.
