The Mark
Walker story
Allow me to
introduce myself, my name is Mark Walker and I am an Elite
Wheelchair Basketball Coach. In 1996 I coached Australia to a
Gold Medal at the Atlanta Paralympics and in 1999 I coached
South Africa to a first time berth in the 2000 Sydney
Paralympics. My current international coaching record is 22
wins 2 losses, with 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal, which is
the best record of any current international coach.
I recently completed
some development work for the Korean Basketball Federation in
which I worked for 5 days with their National Men's Team and
then conducted 12 hours worth of coaching clinics for the
their coaches. It was a very rewarding experience and renewed
my passion for the game, so much so that I am looking for
opportunities to develop the game within other regions.
I tend to take a
wholistic approach to the game by looking at the overall
program and looking at ways to improve the structure from the
bottom up. Without a solid base of players a national team
will always tend to be quite weak. Without knowledgeable
coaches the game cannot develop and that also includes referees
who are an important part of a players development.
I am available at
various times during the year (at least 10-12 weeks each year) to
either be a head coach, assistant or mentoring coach. I can
also run coaching clinics, camps and help develop a program
with your wheelchair basketball committees. Attached is my
resume with all my contact details along with a reference from
the Koreans.
Dr Dennis Waitley a famous
motivational speaker once stated you can never make a future
decision now, only present decisions that will affect the
future. The Australian Team back in 96 proved to me that a
country with a small population and a coach with big dreams
could take on the world. I am sure you have young players with
the right training and a little inspiration will one day help
your zone win a medal at, Gold Cup, Paralympics or even a
first time qualifying berth in those tournaments.
It starts with a
vision and then some carefully laid plans, add some passion
and enthusiasm and amazing things can happen. Paralympic Gold
in 1996 was a dream I lived and something your zone can one
day experience. It is my dream to win 2 more Gold Medals at
the Paralympics and this passion burns inside of me, all that
is needed is an opportunity with a country that has similar
desires and a reasonable team of dedicated athletes.
If you would like
more information or have any questions please don't hesitate
to email me. I can put together a plan of action for any
nation, along with promotional DVD's to promote the sport.
GENIUS IS NOTHING
MORE THAN INFLAMED ENTHUSIASM!!!
