2025 Online Club Conference: the Future of EuroCup

Representatives of clubs, players, and ITOs got together for the first European Club Conference.

The online conference took place on Wednesday 28th evening with participants from European clubs. The future of EuroCup has been discussed after showcasing the results of the latest survey.

IWBF Europe Competition Commission is planning some changes to improve the EuroCup and further develop wheelchair basketball in Europe. Small, but significant, changes are planned for the 2026 competition as a start in the process of changes to EuroCup in the future

The number of teams involved in Champions Cup will reduce from 17 to 14 teams, enhancing the level of the competition. The group stage will be reduced to four teams in each of the three groups, playing a format with one game per team per fay day with and the last games being played on Sunday morning. The qualification pathways to the Quarter Finals and EuroCup Finals will not change.

A plan to change the allocation system is being developed. In the future, a promotion and relegation system will be put in place, but further work is being carried out on this before it can be implemented.

The qualification tournament will become a new division into the EuroCup called EuroCup 4. Based on the availability of the hosts, more clubs can be involved in the competition.

More meetings are planned in the future to share ideas and talk more about wheelchair basketball in Europe.
