FIBA General Assembly – Reykjavik, Iceland
May 15-17, 2026
The FIBA General Assembly took place on May 15-17 2026 in Reykjavik, Iceland, where Walter Pfaller, IWBF Europe president, and Petr Tucek, IWBF Europe secretary general, add the opportunity, as in previous years, to represent IWBF Europe and report on wheelchair basketball.
“My main focus was on the C European Championship in Samokov, Bulgaria, and the A European Championship in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.” – says Walter Pfaller – “I reported on the upcoming 3×3 World Tour event in Vienna for men and women.
I expressed my gratitude to FIBA General Secretary Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa, and FIBA Europe General Secretary Kamil Novak for their excellent cooperation and emphasized that I will take many positive suggestions back to IWBF Europe from this General Assembly.
I also expressed my thanks to the General Secretaries and the President, who strongly support wheelchair basketball and have enabled us to gain new member countries and event venues.
I spoke about the Hoop 4 School project, a partnership between FIBA Europe and IWBF Europe. It’s a special inclusion project that brings wheelchair basketball to schools.
The participants were thrilled by the short video shown at the end – Final Four/Madrid – which perfectly captured the emotions and high level of play.
Petr and I took the opportunity to have in-depth discussions about wheelchair basketball with several representatives.”
