New Names for EuroCup Rounds
New title, old format
On 6th September 2022, the IWBF Europe Competitions Commission met to discuss the upcoming competitions. One of the focuses was the EuroCup – the highest wheelchair basketball club competition in Europe – which allocations are expected to be announced in the upcoming month.
The Commission, after carefully considering some options, decided to rename the EuroCup rounds as we return to normal events following the pandemic. Champions Cup and EuroCup 1, 2, and 3 are now the new names beginning from the 2023 competition. The format will remain unchanged, but the preliminary rounds will now be known as group stages.
In addition, the full title of the competition stated in the Manual will be Wheelchair Basketball Club Cup Competitions in Europe, but it will still be known as EuroCup.
Here is an overview on the new names starting from EuroCup2023:
Champions League is renamed Champions Cup:
- Champions Cup – Group A / B / C -> 2 – 5 February 2023
- Champions Cup Quarter Finals A / B -> 9 – 12 March 2023
- Champions Cup Final 4 -> 4 – 7 May 2023
EuroLeague 1 is renamed EuroCup 1:
- EuroCup 1 – Group A / B -> 9 – 12 March 2023
- EuroCup 1 Final -> 27 – 30 April 2023
EuroLeague 2 is renamed EuroCup 2:
- EuroCup 2 – Group A / B -> 9 – 12 March 2023
- EuroCup 2 Final -> 27 – 30 April 2023
EuroLeague 3 is renamed EuroCup 3:
- EuroCup 3 – Group A / B -> 9 – 12 March 2023
- EuroCup 3 Final -> 27 – 30 April 2023
