Former IPC President recognised for dedication to Para sports

Former International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven has been honoured for his “outstanding achievements in sport and his dedication to disability sports” as part of the 19th German Paralympic Media Awards.

Sir Philip received the 2019 Special Award, which was decided by a jury led by 16-time Paralympic alpine skiing champion Gerd Schoenfelder.

Sir Philip, who represented Great Britain at the Paralympics in athletics, swimmingand wheelchair basketball, was elected IPC President in Athens, Greece, in December 2001.

During his Presidency he transformed the IPC from a disability sports organisation to one of the most highly respected sports organisations in the world.

The IPC developed a reputation for strong governance and integrity, growing Para sport globally and staging sporting events that transformed and enriched the lives of millions of people around the world.

The Paralympic Games are now the world’s biggest sporting event for driving social inclusion.
