The Wheelchair Basketball Community Mourns the Loss of Werner Otto
Werner Otto was a pioneer in the field of refereeing and regulations of our sport.
Werner Otto, a pioneer in wheelchair basketball, left us at the age of 93.
For over 30 years, he has shaped the development of refereeing in German wheelchair basketball. Together with Detlef Krings, Norbert Kucera and Ulli Otto, he founded the referee and rules commission of the wheelchair basketball department at the end of the 1980s, whose chairmanship he remained until the end of 2015.
“We are mourning for a friend and great figure of wheelchair basketball to Germany, who left his mark especially in the refereeing area,” says Dr. Christoph Küffner, chairman of the department.
