ECMWA 2021 – Follow-up Statement on Coronavirus

ECMWA, Madrid, Spain

Following the identification of positive coronavirus cases in the delegation from Turkey on arrival at the airport, all players from both men and women teams were tested with a PCR test on 2nd December 2021.

The results of the test identified one further positive case in a player, this player has been placed in quarantine and will not take part in the competition. Everyone at IWBF Europe and FEDDF sends best wishes to the player.

All other persons in the Turkish delegation have tested negative on two occasions.

In compliance with the obligations of the covid protocol and the law of the Commune of Madrid, the players who tested negative twice are permitted to participate fully in the competition.

All persons in the delegation will be tested daily throughout the competition, before departure from the hotel for a game.

As applicable to all teams, any persons indicating positive in the antigen test will not be permitted to leave the hotel and must isolate to await the result of a confirmatory PCR test.

The decision was made following medical and legal advice by the IWBF Europe Executive Council. The decision will be reviewed regularly.
